A website without profitable traffic is really a waste of time. Our clients increase traffic to their websites by optimizing their sites for search engines. So what does optimization really mean?

Simply put, it is the process of adding elements to the site that will enable search engines to do 3 things:

  1. IDENTIFY the site from among the millions in cyberspace
  2. UNDERSTAND what the site is all about and
  3. RANK the website within their index

So what are these elements?

  1. Let’s start with the TITLE
    1. Every single page deserves its own unique title. The title should reflect an accurate description of the page itself.
    2. Why is that important? It provides the search engines with information to identify the page. The search engines place high scoring weight on the title. Also when a user bookmarks the page, the title is what appears at the top of the browser.
  2. Next we have KEYWORDS
    1. Keyword selection for a client’s website is the single most important stage in the entire website optimization process. Taking the answers the client provides on the Web Development worksheet, I know

      i. Who the site is targeting
      ii. What information they are seeking
      iii. And Why the information is important to them
      iv. Working with my client, we create phrases that sell to their audience.

    2. There are 3 types of keywords or keyword phrases

    Why is that important? Correct keywords and phrases mean that search engines
    will drive profitable traffic to the website

  3. i. Niche words – These are words that a web surfer uses to find a site if they are familiar with the industry the site represents
    ii. Just plain ole’ keywords – words that a surfer uses if they know absolutely nothing about the industry the site represents
    iii. Just enough keywords – search engines like focused sites with focused, targeted words, that means keeping keywords to a max of 200 characters

  4. Lets talk about METATAGS
    1. These are special tags that are placed in the web page coding. They provide information about the site to search engines such as;
    1. Why is that important? Search engines use this information when building their indexes and determining where to place a site in it’s rankings
  5. • i. Who created the page,
    • ii. How often the page is updated, and
    • iii. Which keywords represent the page’s content

  6. Then we have ALT TAGS
    1. This is the text that describes a graphic when a user rolls over it with their mouse
    2. Why is that important? Search engines use this descriptive text when indexing a site
  7. And finally, there is LINK POPULARITY
    1. This is simply the number of websites that contain a link back to your site
    2. Why is that important? Search engines use the number of sites that link to a website as a way to calculate how high that site will rank in their index

So what’s all the fuss about search engine optimization anyway? Well, 85% of web surfers use search engines to find information online! A business owner, you cannot ignore the importance of the optimization process and making your website visible to the search engines.
