Carol J. Dunlop Hi everyone, excited to be here tonight 🙂
Wendyy Bailey Hi Carol and welcome to the Member Spotlight Chat! Let’s start by telling us what you do as an “Online WOW Strategist?”
Carol J. Dunlop Glad to, I help clients navigate all the “techy” stuff that goes with having a presence online. That includes email marketing, social media marketing, content marketing and of course your WOW! Website.
Wendyy Bailey That’s great! Tell us a little about how you came to be the WOW! strategist and learned about all the techy stuff.
Carol J. Dunlop I’d be happy to, my hubby Alvin is the techy one actually, he taught me EVERYTHING I know, so in order to keep up with him I had to learn. We met in 1993 and married 1 year later, then 6 months later we started our company CSI corporation.
Carol J. Dunlop Since I made the websites look pretty, I also had to know how to make them work, then social media came along and I learned how to incorporate all of that also
Wendyy Bailey Ok, let’s get into some content. What’s the number one reason most of your clients hire you to support them?
Carol J. Dunlop Great question. They hire me because they have a headache from dealing with tech. They don’t know how to make the systems like WordPress, Leadpages, and MailChimp work together. They could learn it, but who has time for that?? So I do it for them and then they can do what THEY do best, run their business.
Wendyy Bailey Are those the top “systems” you work on… WordPress, LeadPages and MailChimp? If not, what are the other systems you’re knowledgeable in?
Carol J. Dunlop Those are only a couple, I also work with Aweber, Ontraport, Active Campaign, Constant Contact, Microsoft Office and a few more. Let’s say that if you need it to do your work, I usually work with it.
Carol J. Dunlop here’s a larger list: Ontraport | Active Campaign | MailChimp | WordPress | DreamWeaver | Zen Cart | Aweber | YouTube | Twitter | Facebook | Periscope | Facebook Live | Webinar Jam | Webinar Ninja | Google Hangouts | YouTube Live | Buffer | IFTTT | Ado…See More
Wendyy Bailey That’s a lot of systems! I’ve had multiple horror experiences over the years dealing with techy people who talked over my head, lied to me about what they knew or held my website hostage… just to share a few horror stories. What do you do to keep it simple and relieve your client’s frustration?
Carol J. Dunlop So sorry to hear that 🙁 It’s so frustrating to have that happen and I’ve had clients come to me from the experiences of others. But what I do is talk to them in plain English and breakdown what they need to do into simple, digestible pieces so they get it.
Wendyy Bailey In full disclosure, you designed my website and support me in all things tech. I adore your bubbly personality and positive approach to the frustrating stuff. It truly takes a load of my mind! How do you typically work with your clients, i.e., one on one, group programs, masterclasses, etc.?
Wendyy Bailey I’ll add that you’re even nice to me when I break stuff. lol
Carol J. Dunlop Thanks Wendyy Bailey I really appreciate that and it is my goal for ALL of my clients to feel that way. Sometimes I spoil them, don’t tell anyone LOL But I work with clients one-on-one, in masterclasses and also in group programs, but it depends on what we are doing.
Carol J. Dunlop Websites are usually one-on-one, but everything social media can be handled in a group setting. Also content marketing and email marketing. So it depends on what they want and what they need.
Wendyy Bailey That’s great! Who are the types of clients you serve?
Carol J. Dunlop I love working with women business owners who want to get clients with their website. Because EVERYTHING revolves around your website, your hub and when you understand and embrace that, you succeed. And life is so much easier.
Wendyy Bailey I’m so glad you said that! I see too many ppl approach social media first rather than understanding their website as the hub/home of everything else. What’s one tip we can use to get more clients with our websites?
Carol J. Dunlop Yes, I love that and live it! The best tip I can give is to make sure your website addresses your ideal client or prospects pain points, up front, on the first page/home page. Because if they come to your site and you are talking about what is botherin…See More
Carol J. Dunlop I LOVE social media, but it is only a tool to HELP you get people to your website. THAT is where the magic happens.
Wendyy Bailey Nice! Thanks for clarifying that. It’s not just about likes, fans and followers but it’s about your ability to convert them into clients. You just shared the big secret.
Carol J. Dunlop Yes i did didn’t I, but its the truth!
Wendyy Bailey Will you share one more “client-getting” tip?
Carol J. Dunlop Sure thing. I use social media to get most, well a lot of my clients. I actually have a process called the OPA concept. It’s about using Other People’s Audience. I join groups where my ideal clients hang out, then I offer my assistance, for free to people who need help by answering their questions.
Wendyy Bailey Awesome!! Here’s a question that comes up sometimes… what’s the big difference between having a WordPress site versus an html site?
Carol J. Dunlop an Html site is limiting for most business owners, they don’t know html and don’t want to, but a WordPress site is extremely user-friendly and once you have it up and running you can make a lot of the edits yourself, without haveing to have a web designer do it.
Wendyy Bailey Nachi Salasini, I asked this question for you. 😉
Carol J. Dunlop The thing is when I answer their questions, other people see it and have contacted me also, to learn more and to work with me, in addition to the people who I’m helping.
Nachi Salasini Am I able to ask questions here Or after?
Wendyy Bailey Absolutely! Ask away!
Carol J. Dunlop Ask away Nachi Salasini and welcome!
Nachi Salasini Carol, thank you for sharing your expertise. When it comes to video – what role do you see it playing on folk’s websites?
Carol J. Dunlop thanks for joining Nachi Salasini I appreciate your support
Carol J. Dunlop Girl that is my sweet spot, video is HOT, HOT, HOT. I just did a FB live about it last night and video is the next best thing to being in person. In other words if you aren’t using it now, you NEED to be!
Wendyy Bailey I’m SO glad you asked that question, Nachi! I knew it would get Carol excited. lol
Carol J. Dunlop yes it does, LOVE video and its only going to get hotter and better and you will have so many more ways to use it in the very near future.
Wendyy Bailey Excellent! Is there a strategy to how you use video on your website?
Carol J. Dunlop The best way is to have an intro, 30 sec or so, video on your home page, then have other videos throughout your site. It allows people to see you and get to know you.
Carol J. Dunlop yes of course, since people are always wondering where they need to go to find the content to share with their audience, I created 15 free resources you can use to find and curate all sorts of content. You can grab it here, https://www.csicorporation.com/15resources/

Carol J. Dunlop sure thing, never stop being inquisitive, that is what has helped me to learn and embrace all the new technologies that are here to stay. It’s only going to get better and deeper, so don’t think that you can’t do something just because its techy, go ahead and jump in!
