The end of the year is upon is once again. It seems like yesterday that I was planning for 2019 and now here we are.

Each year, at this same time, you start to think about how to make the upcoming year better, more productive, more fruitful. At yeast I do. I am always on a betterment quest. It’s one of those things where you can’t really say you made it, but you’re always on the quest.

I love adventure, don’t you?

When you talk about having better, more productive years in business, it usually relates to money. After all, if you increase productivity, you’ll produce more products, whether they are tangible or not.

Producing more and better products means demand has increased.

And if demand increases, the payoff is soon to follow.

I’ve got 9 ways for you to make 2020 your most productive and profitable year ever.

Let’s get into it.

  1. Get Accountability

When you work for a company, there’s accountability everywhere. You have bosses, deadlines, schedules, and tons of meetings. You’re always answering to someone, even if it’s shareholders.

But when you’re an entrepreneur, the buck starts and stops with you. The very reason you became an entrepreneur is to control the buck.

You’re not an island. When things go wrong or get sticky, you need someone to be there to help you get you through it.

Because Life . . . is my statement when things don’g go as planned or just plain ole’ fall apart.

The best part about accountability is that it can take many forms. You can:

The route you choose doesn’t matter, getting the accountability does.

 

 2. Create Your Client-Attraction USP

What is the most frequently asked question you receive over and over again?

I bet it goes something like, “What do you do?”

Ahh, the question that can send you into a complete tailspin, if you aren’t prepared. Or can attract the exact client you’re searching for when you are prepared.

Answering this question the right way, to the right people means more clients on your roster and more money in your pocket.

USP stands for Unique Sales Proposition. It simply tells the other person who you are, what you do/sell, and why they should buy, in a few, strategic words.

I’ll go more in depth with this in my Business Visibility Challenge, but here’s a template you can use to create or tweak your USP so you can attract the people who want to work with you.

My USP

I teach entrepreneurs to convert marketing into money so they can live the life they’ve always dreamed of.

I don’t always include the “so they can live the life they’ve always dreamed of” part, the first few words are kick-butt enough and illicit the response I want, which is “tell me more!”

I’ve learned that the fewer words the better. Get straight to the point about what you do and how you solve their problem. The more straight-forward you are with this part, the quicker and easier you can get to the “Tell me more!” part. Which is what you want in the first place.

  3. Create an Unforgettable Lead Magnet

Clients are the life blood of your business, without them there is no business. They don’t just drop out of the sky, you have to hunt them and secure them.

Being the hunter/gatherer that you are, each day sharpen your tools so you can catch just the right client.

The only difference between an entrepreneur and a hunter is that you don’t kill what you hunt nor eat it. But, great hunts allow you to eat more and better. I hope that makes sense.

Your “weapon” of choice to catch that elusive client is your lead magnet.

The reason it’s called a lead magnet is because it attracts potential clients to you, so they can see if you’re the one who can solve their problem.

The lead magnet gives them a taste of what you’d provide to them as an actual client. You know like those samples at Costco.

You’re actually breaking off a piece of your product (or service) and allowing them to sample it. If it’s good enough and solves one part of their problem or provides a solution, you got ‘em!

Here’s the thing: That lead magnet has to be awesome and give them a quick win.

It can’t be a 50-page ebook. Who has time to read that? Just thinking about it is exhausting.

It can’t be complicated or drawn out, the key is quick, fast, and in a hurry. Because that’s how people are now, they want quick results.

You don’t have to solve all their problems, just one will do. Remember it’s a sample.

  4. Turn Facebook Groups into a 24/7 Lead Generator

I love Facebook groups. I’ve gotten so many clients from them. They are one of my main lead generators.

From my research, I leaned that 40% of my annual income is generated from contacts who found me via social media. Allthough I’m on all the major platforms, Facebook is my main client supplier.

It’s easier than you think to get clients using Facebook. Follow this simple rule: Be helpful not salesy.

Have you heard the saying that you catch more flies with honey than using a fly swatter?

The same principle applies.

If you’re helpful and generous to others, people will gravitate towards you. All of them may not be your ideal client, but if they aren’t, they know someone who is.

Besides, it’s more fun to be helpful than to post about your products or services 24/7. Promotional posts will only garner you a fraction of the business you could get if you consistently help people get what they want.

Here’s a great way to start seeing results from your Facebook groups. It’ll take you about 10 minutes per day.

  • Choose 5 groups to be active in for one month at a time
  • Log into each group once per day to post
  • Post something helpful that your target audience will appreciate and utilize
  • Comment on 5 posts. The key is to be helpful and non-promotional
  • Like 5 posts

Check in once or twice during the day to make sure you aren’t missing replying to something important. Keep this up for 30 days and then switch groups for the next month. Which ever groups are really paying off, keep them as part of the 5.

    5. Be a Great Guest

podcast guestThe easiest and quickest way to get in front of your target audience is to become a guest. Whether it’s on a Facebook Live, blog post, or podcast, being the guest of someone who already serves your audience is a great step in your productivity plan. 

Once you confirm your appearance date, make sure you have all the information you need to deliver an awesome session.

Ask the following questions:

  • Length of the broadcast or number of words for the post.
  • The host’s preferred subject.
  • Can you offer a freebie gift to the audience?
  • What platform will the session be recorded on?

In addition, listen to, watch, or read their posts/previous episodes to see the style and flow the host is looking for.

Of course a blog post isn’t going to flow the same as a podcast interview, but you can garner amazing insights about what to do and not to do.

Your goal is to make the host’s job as easy as possible. Don’t make them hunt for the information they need from you. Have your press kit ready, on your website. Have the link available so you can send it to the host quickly.

Finally, be ready early. If this is an interview, be ready to go before the scheduled time and have any notes close at hand.

If this is a post, have everything including the post, quotes, graphics and any source citations, ready to send before the deadline hits.

  6. Follow the Trends

Following and weighing in on trending topics is a top UN-Marketing strategy that will get you notices.

It’s a simple strategy:

  • Check out what’s trending by going to trends.google.com.
  • Decide which stories you can tie in with your business or experience.
  • Create a post or article that includes the trend.
  • Post everywhere you can.

Here’s an example:  I met a young lady who owned a hospice right about the time that Bobbi Kristina (Whitney Houston’s daughter) was being transferred to hospice care. This new acquaintance told me that she was trying to figure out a way to let people know that hospice care is about more than caring for the dying. They also perform managed care duties for diabetics and patients with chronic diseases. I told her that since everyone was fascinated with the Bobbi Kristina story, it would be a great time for her to create blog posts, Facebook posts, and Tweets about what hospice care includes, and share little-known stories, so readers could get a better understanding of her industry and her business, not just a one-sided representation of her industry.

A word of caution about trending news.

Be careful about connecting your brand or business with controversial topics and figures. Although you might have an opinion about a current news story or have an emotional connection to a trending topic, you do not want to alienate ideal prospects by sharing opinions that might be offensive. Keep your posts positive and neutral. Above all, make sure they’re relevant to your business.

Get the jump on the trends and put your business out front as quickly as possible.

Check out the popular daytime talk shows for content. That’s right, the talk shows. You don’t have to watch all of them, but you do need to know what they’re talking about on a particular day. Browse their websites to see what their upcoming show topics are and when each topic airs.

When you see something that you like and can weave your business into, check out the time slot and make it a point to view the episode.

    7. Make Your Website Irresistible

Your website is your online hub. It’s the place where everything happens!

Making your website irresistible to your visitors and converting them to leads and then clients is your website’s #1 function.

Your website is the place where you have total control of how your image and your content are displayed for the world to see.

However, having a website is not enough. Your website has to gets clients!

No longer is it enough to throw up a static, brochure-like site that only displays information. Your website has to do something.

Your website must accomplish several things:

  • Welcome your visitors.
  • Answer their questions.
  • Provide the information they are looking for.
  • Capture visitors’ information.
  • Tell or show your visitors how to work with you and contact you.
  • Provide a way to purchase your products, programs, and services.
  • Give them a reason to want more.

  8. Learning and Training Never Stops

However, that’s usually easier said than done. There are books, programs, and college courses that teach you hot to get in front of your audience.

Now that you know who your audience is and what they want, from reading the other 8 steps, it’s time to step on the gas.

Here’s the thing, if you know where your audience hangs out, along with how to connect with them, you’re home free, right?

But how do you know? It’s all about knowing them intimately so you can anticipate where you will meet them.

If you don’t get in front of them somehow, they don’t know you exist. If they don’t’ know you exist, they won’t buy.

That means you have to be visible and stand out from the sea of sameness.

How?

Here are 3 ways to get in front of your buying peeps:

  • Speaking: But only to groups and audiences that include your target audience.
  • Guesting on podcasts and lives that your target audience follows.
  • Write blog posts and articles that your target audience reads.
