A lot has happened since my last update about my book. I changed the title just a tad to make it appeal more to the core audience that I want to reach, entrepreneurs. The new title is: UN-Market Your Business: 10 Ways for Savvy Entrepreneurs to Stand Out, Stop Struggling, and Start Profiting. Actually, I am not sure if I shared the title before or not here, but I did a couple different places, all the while tweaking as I posted. But that is the title.
I completed my manuscript and now it’s in the hands of my author coach, Anita Henderson, for a final once over before I send it to my Beta Readers.
That was a totally new concept for me, beta readers. It makes so much sense though. Beta Readers are people who you know, not family, who will actually read your book and give you feedback on its concept, flow, and overall readability. Ideally, they should be part of the audience who will actually purchase your book, so you can get an idea of how people will react in general. The reason they shouldn’t be family is because family usually supports you no matter what, that’s their job. But you probably won’t get the feedback that you need from family members. Beta readers should be able to give you candid, real feedback that you can use to make your book better.
It’s a little scary to send my completed manuscript off to these people, even though I know them. It feels a little like sending my child off to a baby sitter for the first time. I trust them but I really don’t know what to expect back. But I’ll see soon enough. I should have everything ready to send out by the second week in January. I’ve already prepped my beta readers on what to do and what I expect of them, and they are ready to get going.
This is the first, real evidence to me that this book is materializing. It was unnerving enough to send it to Anita to read initially and make corrections and comments, now I’m exposing my thoughts, strategies and long-held secrets to other people. But, it’s all in the name of creating a quality product.
Nothing that you want to do right is ever easy or simple. It takes thought, planning and discipline. And boy have I put in a lot of all three of those things.
After I get the manuscript back from my beta readers and decide which changes and adjustments to make, it’s off to my editor extraordinaire, Candice L. Davis.
But for now, I’ll be creating all the downloads, cheat sheets, check lists, and tools that will make this book the irresistible marketing resource that I know entrepreneurs need it to be.
